Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

CBT enables you to explore the ways that thoughts, feelings and emotions impact upon you and your everyday life. It focuses on how you think and subsequently behave. CBT goes on to explore how you can change negative patterns of thinking or behaviour that may be impacting negatively upon you. This can help you change the way you feel and the way you react. When using CBT the therapist enables you to focus on the present rather than the past but it may help you look at the past in order to make sense of how you experience the world now.

CBT works on the premise that it is not the events themselves that impact on you but the meaning you give to them. It is a collaborative therapy in which you work alongside your therapist to set goals and develop coping strategies which you can then go on to utilise in your future.
