Complementary Therapies Practitioner
NHS Complementary and Alternative Practitioners
Having qualified in London in 1989 with a BSc (Hons) in Nursing Studies, Karen
then gained further qualifications in physical and complementary therapies.
These included yoga, therapeutic massage, stress management, aromatherapy and
so on. Her balanced approach combine, equally, her medical knowledge with
evidence- based complementary therapies.
After many years of working both in the NHS and private sector, Karen’s passion for this integrated approach to health care has culminated in her
founding York House, Centre for Integrated and Complementary Medicine. Her deep
understanding and supportive approach are shared with the other senior health
practitioners working there.
Karen specializes in patients suffering with any form of distress which is then
felt in the body. From those who have disengaged to varying degrees from their
physical body as a result of trauma, abuse and /or psychological damage and
those who have a heightened sensitivity to their physical body and suffer with
chronic pain and other stress-related conditions and functional illnesses.
She helps them to develop a more balanced awareness of their body, thereby
promoting health, becoming mindful of their needs and abilities and building
self esteem so they become empowered to make positive changes in their lives.
Patients are seen individually, or as a member of a small group alongside others
with similar conditions, providing specific support, information and therapy.
Karen also runs courses, workshops and gives talks to health care professionals,
yoga teachers and other interested groups on a number of topics. Please check
the website for her programme.
